Paper documents stamped with bar codes are widely used in a variety of industries such as finance, mortgage, insurance, healthcare, transportation and manufacturing. Combine these bar code stamped documents with computer based faxing, network scanners and MFD's and the result is mature and cost-saving data collection technologies that address the following mission critical organizational needs:

The TargetFax Barcode Server
The TargetFax Barcode Server is a Windows 2000/2k3 based bar code fax receving product that combines the power and flexibility of TargetFax WorkFlow with bar code fax and bar code data collection technology to automatically identify, divide, index and deliver documents directly into daily business workflow processes. Bar code faxing delivery options include send to printer, network directory, e-mail address, document management system or custom application. Bar codes can be printed directly on the documents or used as batch separator pages. Separator pages can be kept or discarded. The TargetFax Barcode Server currently supports more than 15 different 1D barcodes. The Advanced Barcode component supports specific linear bar codes and over twenty 2D bar codes for bar code data collection.

MFD Devices
The TargetFax Barcode Server also supports receiving images and bar code data collection through bar code faxing from any MFD, copier or scanning device that can deliver the document to a network accessible directory in either TIFF or PDF format using index-based filenames. Features and Functionality
Once the bar code fax images are received, utilizing computerized fax or scanner devices, the TargetFax Barcode Server can be configured to first devide the file into documents, collect bar code date, index as needed, and then deliver the documents, with or without bar code separator pages, to one or more of the following destinations:

  • Printers
  • SMTP Email addresses
  • Network Directories or FTP staging points
  • Document Imaging Solutions
  • Workflows

TargetFax Barcode Server can be configured to deliver the documents, with or without a barcode separator pages, in the following formats:

  • Single Page Tiff
  • Multipage Tiff
  • PDF (Image based)
  • JPG

TargetFax Barcode Server can be configured to rename and stamp the documents, with or without bar code separator pages, based on combinations of:

  • Barcode Index Values and Lookup Tables
  • Senders CSID
  • Date/Time Received
  • Recipient Information, such as user or department
  • Custom Fields
  • Fixed Value Counters
About Bar Codes - Bar Code Data Collection
Barcode 39 is a 1D barcode (shown below), which can be created as part of an edited document such as Microsoft Word or Excel, using a Report Writer like Crystal Reports, or from an HTML web page.  Bar codes can be created using a barcode font.  Many 1D bar code fonts are available on the Internet.

The most common bar code in use today for complex document processing and symbolic encryption is PDF417 (shown below). PDF417 is a 2D bar code that holds a maximum of around 1600 characters. These are commonly used to pass structured information, such as data filled in on a form.

NOTE:  For higher volume systems, such as 12 to 48 lines increasing processor speed provides excellent performance benefits.  For large volume systems beyond 48 lines, excellent disk I/O speed, increased processor and memory are a must. Please contact technical support for assistance and recommendations.

 
TargetFax Workstation Client
The TargetFax Server and client software may be run on the same machine or standalone in a local area network environment. For organizations that have local area networks and desire to install the TargetFax Client on a different computer the following TargetFax Workstation client requirements apply.
